Is the American Dream slipping away? Maybe, says Mark R. Rank, PhD, of the Brown School, and a top expert on inequality and social justice. Rank says there are serious questions about the American Dream’s applicability to everyday people. His new book, “Chasing the American Dream: Understanding What Shapes Our Fortunes,” has just been released.

Internet, social media expose youth to tobacco

Although tobacco companies are barred by law from advertising their products to children, researchers at the School of Medicine have found that many teens and pre-teens are getting tobacco ads and promotions through social media outlets or text messages. More than one in 10 children reported receiving tobacco coupons or promotions on Facebook or MySpace pages or text messages.

‘The Intergalactic Nemesis’ returns Friday

What’s a long-awaited threat, born of outer space and a danger to life as we know it? Why, it’s “The Intergalactic Nemesis,” of course. Part old-time radio play and part multimedia graphic novel, this unique science fiction serial returns to St. Louis with the first two parts of a planned “Nemesis” trilogy.

Law alumna’s gift will fund new prosecution clinic

The School of Law will establish a Prosecution Law Clinic in partnership with the City of St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office. The clinic will be funded by a generous gift from former prosecutor and law alumna Alicia McDonnell (right) (JD ’95). At left is Circuit Attorney Jennifer Joyce. McDonnell hopes to strengthen the ranks of criminal prosecutors by giving law students hands-on experience.

WUSTL has completed a comprehensive institutional self-study as part of its 2014 reaccredi-tation process. The work resulted in a self-study draft report, “Building on a Strong Foundation.” The WUSTL community is invited to review and comment on the draft until April 18.
